“The year was 1969 and Harris was a rookie out of Grambling State, left undrafted until the eighth round because black players simply weren’t quarterbacks in the NFL. Marlin Briscoe had broken the modern day quarterback color barrier a year earlier in Denver, but when the season ended he would not throw another pass his entire career.”
