(OMAHA, Neb.) — Four decades have passed since Marlin “The Magician” Briscoe became the first African American starting quarterback in the NFL as a rookie for the Denver Broncos in 1968. The dramatic story of Briscoe’s life and career as told in his autobiography “The First Black Quarterback,” is now close to becoming a feature length film with support of actor and Omaha native John Beasley.

West Omaha Films Finalizes Option Agreement with NFL Pioneer Marlin Briscoe for Movie Project

OMAHA, NE – West Omaha Films announce today the completion of a three year option agreement with Marlin Briscoe. The option agreement gives West Omaha Films the rights to produce a movie within three years about the story of Briscoe’s rise to the top, his meteoric fall and his triumph over incredible odds to become the man he is today. Financial terms of the three year option are not available.

OMAHA, NE – They are the legends of integration in professional sports. Like Jackie Robinson, Arthur Ashe and Joe Louis, Marlin Briscoe was a trailblazer, as the first black man to start as an NFL quarterback. Decades after, black athletes were a common sight on athletic teams of all types, the myth prevailed that an African-American could not successfully lead a football team as quarterback.
